I enjoyed the set-up of the novel. The descriptions were based primarily on smell instead of the usual visual cues. I could smell the rot and corpse flowers.

I was also wholeheartedly invested in Iris and wanted her to be happy. The author did a great job of setting a narrative, making you fall for it, and then pulling the rug out from under you in the end. I felt for Iris, and I wanted her to find happiness. She just didn’t find happiness the way she (nor I) thought she would. She wasn’t completely aware of her situation due to her amnesia of the disappearance. This made her an unreliable narrator, but you don’t really pick up on that until nearly the end of the book. It didn’t change how I felt about her though. I think it made me feel even more for her.

3.5/5 stars rounded up

I would have given it 4 stars, but Tyler annoyed me. No matter what his background was, I just couldn’t give him the sympathy because he annoyed the be-jesus out of me.
