Seventeen-year-old Iris Hollow has always been strange. Something happened to her and her two older sisters when they were children, something they can’t quite remember but that left each of them with an identical half-moon scar at the base of their throats. Iris has spent most of her years trying to avoid the weirdness that sticks to her. But when her eldest sister, Grey, goes missing under suspicious circumstances, Iris learns just how weird life can get: Horned men start shadowing her, a corpse falls out of her sister’s ceiling, and ugly memories start to twist their way into her mind. As Iris retraces Grey’s steps and follows the increasingly bizarre trail of breadcrumbs she left behind, it becomes clear that the only way to save her sister is to decipher the mystery of what happened to them as children.

This was another 2021 release that I was looking forward to, and that I enjoyed! This book was a fun, creepy tale about sisters who are haunted by their past and also by their present. Their family is not like your average family, and the sister’s ethereal beauty makes them instantly recognized. When the eldest sister goes missing, things begin to get stranger and secrets start to arise. While this is a horror book, I didn’t find it to be too scary, and parts of it reminded me of the feel of Rory Power’s books (which I love). I also really liked the relationship and personalities of the sisters in this book, and thought that it really made the book come to life! Since there is quite a bit of mystery to the plot, I would recommend going in as blind as possible.
