I loved the style of this book. It's hauntingly beautiful and wonderfully descriptive. Mysterious, with humor sprinkled throughout so the story doesn't become too morose.

At the beginning of the story, there's a lot of unanswered questions - though it doesn't really seem as though the narrator (Iris) wasn't them answered. Background information is liberally given in a seamless way that also serves to bring the characters to life.

Thankfully the author doesn't drag things out or make the reader wait very long before some of the mysteries start be answered.

The vocabulary used all seemed everyday and normal but then had some pretty unusual words tossed in. I found myself having to look up a handful of words (Ex: lissome). Nothing wrong with that, but it could break up the flow of reading.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and would not only read it again, I would recommend it to others.
