The premise of this books seemed so appealing. I was super excited to read it and it was a book I was watching and waiting for, which is rare for me. I usually have a TBR so long that I don't bother to wait around for books. Sadly this one didn't live up to the hype. I was incredibly dark. Which is not a judgement, just a statement.

It had an interesting plot, but it just left me feeling gross and weirded out. Perhaps that was the author's goal, if so, bravo. It also felt sort of pointless and I had to force myself to keep reading. The plot dragged, but it did pick up at the end. The antagonist was nasty and had a good reason for being so.

I did feel for certain characters who met an untimely "end". And I do wonder if the second installment will be better than the first. So I didn't dislike it enough to not finish, but I'm unsure if I will pick up book two. This whole review may be rooted in my particular taste. if you like dark, dark fantasy, this is right for you.
