I don't read a lot of non-fiction but I really liked this one. It’s written in the perspective of the age Jollett was at the time so it reads a bit closer to fiction which definitely suits me, and the matter of fact way he details all these horrible and sad things that took place before and after his family leaving Synanon sucked me right into the story despite not knowing who he was when I started.

While I did lose interest a bit when he was discussing his experiences as an adult, the entirety of his childhood was depicted so well and really painted a picture of the affects of the cult on his life and his relationship with his family. This is one of the rare memoirs that I could see being turned into a movie eventually.
