I love reading strange and unusual nonfiction books and this one is right up there with the best. It is rare after all, to get a person to talk about their time in a cult let alone someone who writes with such skill and precision. Honestly, I felt every minute of this book like I was Mikel's silent shadow and I LOVED it.

We explore the complicated and sometimes painful relationships in Mikel's life; family, friends, etc. and my heart goes out to the man. Growing up in that type of environment and trying to make sense of it must be hard on a day to day basis.

One of the things that actually caught me off guard was how beautiful the prose can be throughout this book. Delicate and sometimes brutal details are given to the every day life of Mikel growing up and I was here for it.

If you are into cult anything, well written prose, and nonficiton, this is a must read.
