Hollywood Park is a memoir about Mikel Jollett (who is lead singer of the band The Toxic Airborne Event).

The book is a glimpse of Jollett's life which began in a cult run by Charles Dederich. Their parents were only allowed to visit their children infrequently so Jollett and his brother, Tony, were mainly lovingly taken care of by Bonnie, a teacher at the "school". Their mother "kidnaps" them when Mikel is 7 years old. His parents are divorced because of the cult's rules, and he and his brother are raised by their narcissistic mother and her boyfriends. They spent summers with their father, who was a recovering drug addict, and his wife. They treated them with much love and compassion and he became very close to his father. The story is a telling of his struggles that he encountered throughout his life and how his circumstances made him the man he is today.

This was a compelling read. Highly recommend!
