Just reading the synopsis and you already feel for Mikel! I can't imagine having a family and not being able to grow up with them and seeing them randomly through your childhood. Mikel had such a horibble childhood growing up within a cult and one of the worse ones that's around. Finally escaping with his family, Mikel still faced several obstacles in his life from poverty, drug abuse, and jail. Mikel eventually raised above all of these obstacles and worked his way through Stanford changing his life forever. I love how he shares his experiences in his childhood and young adult life when it was all against him and he comes out way over the top of them. This is one memoir that I would love to continue reading.
