I am not typically interested in memoirs, but this author seems to have a really compelling story to tell. I found it interesting that the excerpt is only chapters 15 through 17, but since the synopsis stated that the book begins from a childlike point of view, perhaps this is best. The retelling of his brother destroying his bike is really sad. You can tell his brother has a lot of unresolved issues from their past and it's apparent that his abuse is going to only get worse.
