Dull and Uncomfortable

The writing style isn't anything special, and there was no tension or intrigue. The one thing that was off to a good start was the characterization of the main character. I may be exaggerating my feelings a little, but the first few chapters were dull. The Black character who shows up in this is described uncomfortably ("black skin" and being compared to Egyptian statues), and there is some weird stuff with a Korean character, too. I feel like this book could do with sensitivity readers. I also found some of the character interactions annoying. It is creepy, though, I'll give it that. The spooky moments shine, so it's definitely salvageable but probably not for me.
