A very interesting part of history is explored in this book. Post Civil War era and slave trade revelations definitely grabbed my attention.
I have always found Historical Fiction a bit heavy, but I go for them as they can have a great story and also, you can learn something. This book although is for readers inclined more towards historical fiction readers than for someone like me who only sometimes picks this genre. I wasn't instantly connected to the characters but I was intrigued by the overall story.
Having said that, I have to appreciate the kind of research that went into this.
For me personally, I felt the book was a little slow in pace even for historical fiction standards. It took me a while to get involved with the story. That's why I'd say again that it will be more fit for historical fiction lovers.
