Julia Spencer-Fleming has kept all of her beloved fans in suspense for the past few years as we awaited the next installment in the Clare Fergusson/Russ Van Alstyne mystery series, thankfully, "Hid From Our Eyes" did not disappoint. If you have not read the entire series, I highly recommend putting this book down and reading them in order. Spencer-Fleming has done a wonderful job of developing the characters, their stories and their relationships throughout the series so you do not want to miss a single word.

"Hid" focuses in on Russ Van Alstyne in a much more profound way then the previous books. We get to hear more about his backstory as well as his mother (who has always been one of my favorite characters). Through this book, Russ becomes a much more complex character and only further endears himself to the reader. While there is less about Clare, we do watch her continue to wrestle with her place in the world, juggling being a priest, a mother, a wife, a friend and a community member. The mystery at the heart of the story weaves through three generations of police chiefs and keeps you reading to the end. As the story closes, we are left with more questions then answers about our beloved Millers Kill, and I for one hope that we don't have to wait too long for the next installment to find out what happens to these characters who have become so very real through the beautiful writing of Spencer-Fleming.

Be sure to pick up this latest installment, it's so good you'll want to go back and read them all again!
