We're back in Millers Kill, only this time, our favorite sheriff Russ is in the spotlight.

In this return to MKPD, the author takes us into a multi-generational storyline that introduces us to much of what I've wondered about Russ through the years. Yes, we know he's from the armed services; yes, we know he grew up in Millers Kill, but not much else. This gives him a great back-story and dips its toe into father-and-son relationships.

Russ and Clare are juggling being new parents, the future of the MKPD, a new intern at the church and consequences from actions more than 50 years ago.

All our favorite characters are back, along with a new family to Millers Kill, who I hope will stick around in future books.

It was easy to drop right back into the story, seeing where Hadley and Kevin and the other residents of the kill are.

And as usual, the mystery kept me guessing. About half-way through, I got so sucked into the story, I was up late reading, and reading first thing in the morning. By the end, I kept shaking the book, willing it to grow more pages. All I can say is, welcome back, Russ and Clare!
