It has been a long wait, but for the fans of Julia Spencer-Flemings' Clare Fergusson/Russ Van Alstyne series, they should be pleased with the result. The plot revolves around three deaths, all with similar circumstances, two of which go back decades, but have remain unsolved and one which has just occurred. This allows the author to move back and forth freely between different time periods in the life of now chief of police Russ Van Alstyne and the Millers' Kill community. I enjoyed getting a sense of how things were in the area during the period after World War 2 and during the Vietnam war.

The characters that we've come to recognize in the series now come to life by giving us details of their earlier years. The clues are well introduced as the story progresses and you're able to feel a part of the history of Millers' Kill. All in all, an enjoyable read and I look forward to the follow-up.
