Small upstate New York town Millers Kill has been the scene of three eerily similar deaths over a 50+ year period. In each case, an unknown young woman in party dress is found dead on the same rural highway, with no easily discernible cause of death. And each death occurs around the same time of year.

Russ Van Alstyne, now chief of police, was a suspect in the 1972 killing, primarily due to his status as a troubled young Vietnam vet with no good alibi. Now he's newly married and a first-time father; his wife, Clare Fergusson, is struggling with a fussy baby, a demanding job, and a constant craving for the prescription drugs and alcohol she has too great a fondness for.

Medical and scientific advances give Russ a leg up on solving these cases, as does the return of former police chief, Jack Liddle.

Hid From Our Eyes holds a lot of surprises and is impossible to put it down. Although it's the 9th book in a series, you don't have to have read the previous books to follow, although you may want to read them to see what you've missed.
