This is the ninth book in a popular series. Generally, I don’t like to pick up a book in the middle of a series unless the books are standalones. This one seems that it may function as such, but I don’t know enough about the series to be sure.
So far, I really enjoy the author’s writing style. The dialogue flows easily, and the characters are believable. It’s hard to imagine someone going from murder suspect to chief of police in the same department, so I’d be really interested in reading the rest of this tale.
