Normally I resist jumping into a series at the ninth book mark (which this is) but so far I can't see any relation back to prior books. Looking at the title, I guess the police chief has had some other adventures, but maybe this one can be read without learning too much about the previous books. This premise sounds interesting, so I would read it if I won.
