Okay. There was a lot about this I liked - the lgbt side rep, the lesser-talked-about side affects of the pandemic, the comic relief that was Jonah and Max - but also a lot I didn’t. There were a lot of lgbt characters in comparison to other ya books (meaning, there was more than one), which I thought was amazing and I loved how seamlessly it was integrated into the story. I also really like how the authors really tried hard to make it an accurate story. The pandemic, COVID restrictions, school over Zoom, how it affected money and jobs and the economy in general- that’s all really important for someone to understand, and it was written really well.

I didn’t really like some of the story. I think that while the teenagers were written pretty accurately (either being super careful, like Max, or being stupid and partying, like some of Jonah’s friends), some of the storyline didn’t make sense in terms of when that happened. I cant really explain it without spoilers but how some characters treated COVID just rubbed me the wrong way. I also didn’t really like Olivia, I think her character changed a lot and she wasn’t really consistent throughout the book.

Overall I really liked this. It didn’t leave a large impact on me, but I think it was a really important read for me anyways because there were so many human/political issues brought into it.

Triggers in the book: COVID-19, AIDS, death, parental death, panic/anxiety disorder
