This is my first journey into literature influenced and based around the time period of COVID-19, and I was skeptical going into this book. We are still in the midst of the pandemic even now, so I was unsure if this would be a piece of literature that I could handle. It does follow romance, but as someone who was forced into long distance with their partner in 2020, I thought I may relive some of the pain during that time. While the reading experience wasn't perfect for my own personal reasons, I think this book did a good job of meshing the intensity of the last year and a half with a somewhat lighthearted teen romance. It was nice to see literature reflecting this shared trauma on this earth, and I think the author captured those feelings really well. The cover even immediately brought me into the setting because of the mask.
I'm definitely open to reading more from this author, and when I have kids, I want to recommend this to them to give them some semblance of what happened to me but through a literature lens.
