Hello (from here) is the dual-perspective story of Max and Jonah, two teens who meet and fall in love during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in California. They learn a lot about themselves and each other as the pandemic progresses in time with their relationship. They also learn a lot about life, love, family, and death.

The writing is fantastic, and the characters are witty, charming, and a delight to read. The book captures all of the pandemic tendencies from toilet paper hoarding to a complete lack of hygiene and Zoom classes. The book was such a quick and easy read, and I think it really captures the spirit of the time and place that is the COVID-19 pandemic. Having experienced COVID-19 in California myself, I can say the novel captures the feeling, the location, and the craziness of the pandemic perfectly. It felt like being transported back to March 2020 and wondering what would happen and when the world would start to look normal again.

It was a great read, and I'd recommend it to all lovers of YA Contemporary!
