This appears to be a novel, not the book of stories that I pictured from the impressionistic and varied description. The rhythm and language of the writing seems a bit awkward to me, but maybe that is to some extent a stylistic thing, or maybe just the way someone from another country writes in English, or has his writing translated into English.
