This is a rich memoir that makes one of the most famous streets in Manhattan and the village come to life. I felt completely enmeshed with the people Donna so vividly describes. Also, having grown up in the opera world myself, I can honestly say that her stories rang so true and I actually relived many funny, although different moments through the author’s writing. Because she describes the life and the lifestyle with complete accuracy.

Reading this book was akin to going home. All of the famous and not so famous residents seemed to jump off the page with the intoxicating satire of Donna’s writing. She brought them all to life for me, and I absolutely love her fun personality that shines through. Bank Street was and is very lucky to have Donna there. She is strong and interesting, caring, smart, funny and extremely talented. I loved reading her bio. She made me wish I’d grown up on Bank Street too!

Even if you know nothing of the opera or show world, or even Greenwich Village and New York City, rest assured, you will have an understanding of its eclectic culture after reading this book. I gave it five stars.
