To the New Yorkers who live in communities alive with familial camaraderie: this book is for you.

There's a wistful nostalgia I noticed when I read the first few pages offered on this site, and I'm pleased to see how potently it carries throughout the book. Florio's poetic writing adds something else to admire in the book, though it all falls short when compared to the vibrant tales she recounts of the people she's lived with. From rockstars to opera singers to other persons of theater, the people who surrounded Donna Florio in her early years exemplify the idyllic bohemian lifestyle that gave Greenwich Village its historic reputation.

As someone familiar with the knowledge of what the village once was through personal narratives and historical accounts, I found this book to be a delightful combination of the two. However, I do wish it could have dove deeper in some of its more crucial moments; I felt that the book very much gave only a skimmed account from small pockets of time.
