It has taken me a while to get through Growing Up Bank Street. Nonfiction can be tough and often seems to read slower and this book was a struggle for me; though, I also don't feel like I was the right audience for it. I grew up in a small town and failed to find connection or relatability with this memoir.

What I most enjoyed was learning about all the diverse people in the neighborhood and the culture of a street such as Greenwich. The uniqueness and quirkiness of the people was fun even if some of the descriptions and tales seemed to drag on a bit too long. I found the flow sometimes came very abruptly and needed a better transition between telling's to help differentiate what was happening between whom.

This was a very hopeful and moving memoir of people and a community lost in the past. Readers interested in memoirs, New York, and eclectic characters would enjoy this read.
