This memoir gave me a sense of familiarity-- then I realized it reminds me of the atmosphere of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, but while still being its own narrative. The author's deeply rooted love of NYC and the arts are evident, yet she walks the line between passion for Place and recognition of that Place's imperfections.
