I received this book during a BookishFirst Raffle and didn't quite know what I was getting into, but the premise sounded interesting, and the chapter(s) I read were enticing enough. I love a good "forbidden love" trope so that just added to my interest. Ultimately, this review is more like a 3 1/2 but I rounded up because I liked the rest of the story.

When I got the book, I realized what the romantic dynamic actually was, and it took me a bit to be okay with it. Saying that though, everyone is different and it's probably just a weird quirk of mine, but that's why I knocked a bit off on my review. I liked Cam and Willow, but I didn't love how Sullivan played into it, at least until we read further into it and GET it, but getting to that point was rough for me.

There was a lot Cam was fighting for through this book, and his perseverance and drive was what kept me engaged. The town of Alba was terrible and close-minded; I honestly wanted to slap a lot of people while reading this. Cam was really well written, and Willow wasn't terrible, so I kept going, and plus I was super invested in Cam's dad. While there was a lot going on, and while it all wasn't great, it was still enough to get me through to the finish line without wanting to skim through half the chapters. I count that as a win.

I liked it. I probably wouldn't read it again, but I liked it well enough to suggest it to others if they were looking for recommendations.
