Yarros can really write tension! If you are into stories where the main characters want, but can’t have each other, this is your story. You could really feel the desire these two had to be together.

This book did have some issues, but I was mostly able to overlook them and, even while in a bit of a reading slump, I looked forward to getting back to their story. There were a few bits that were overplayed and started to feel repetitive and the ending felt a bit contrived. There were parts of it that I didn’t love because people seemed to change their opinions too easily particularly those with strong personalities, which felt unrealistic. Still, the main characters got in my head and stayed there and made the story well worth the read.

There wasn’t much of the story that was surprising, but it was well written and engaging. I liked both of the main characters and it was fun to see how they grew and their relationships developed, not just with each other but with their family members and other townsfolk as well.

Overall, I found this to be a really enjoyable book. If you don’t delve too deeply into the realism of personalities and you enjoy angsty romance with great characters and heart, I would definitely recommend it. I am so glad I found this book. It was my first read by Rebecca Yarros and I will gladly be reading more of her work.
