Good Boy by Jennifer Finney Boylan is sweet and powerful and is certainly a must read for any dog lover. Each of the dogs she writes about allow her to explore her experience being transgender. The changes in the gender of the dogs cleverly allows Boylan to share her story without having to be overly vulnerable.

The one thing I did not like about this book was the inconsistent timeline. The book is not written completely in order, which can make it difficult to read at times. While the idea of telling her story through the lens of these different dogs is interesting, it often ends up being far too confusing. Regardless, Boylan is incredibly brave to share her story and I commend her for the creative approach she uses to tell her story. She makes this serious topic much more approachable by incorporating dogs, and it is one of the more unique books I've seen lately.
