Powerful Emotional Read
If you're hesitant to read this because you don't think you can relate to the transgender issue, then you can stop hesitating and grab a copy. Boylan shares her struggles with honesty and eloquence, in a way that almost every one of us can relate to. Identity isn't always a gender crisis. It's also about finding ourselves within—or outside of—all the expectations put upon us by family and society. Boylan beautifully captures this in a thoughtful narrative.
I anticipated more focus on the dogs and their roles in Boylan's life. Some dogs stood out more than others, though overall they're more an undercurrent than a focal point.
I did find the writing to be scattered at times. We veer off topic and wander down memory lane, only to circle back and (maybe) get to the point. Consequently, it's a little choppy in sections, though well worth the journey.
