I absolutely loved this book. I didn't really know what it would be about going into the book (That's on me I just didn't read close enough). I didn't know that the author was trans, but I loved the book and the lessons that she learned from each of her dogs. I got this book as an advanced copy and the book came with a trading card of her childhood dog Matt the Mutt. He became my favorite dog, because he reminded me so much of my dog Zack (The energy, not the humping). There were seven dogs in the story that help tell the story of seven important parts of the author's life. While the story did jump around quite a bit, it made sense to me and I could keep up with Boylan's writing (Some people found this to be confusing). I found Boylan's writing to be enjoyable and I loved reading about all seven dogs. While Matt was one of my favorite dogs I also really enjoyed the section that had Ranger in it that took place during Boylan's adult life. Black labs have a soft spot in my heart, so I will always be bias towards these dogs. Honestly this was a great read and one of my favorite quotes was "Dogs equal love". I will forever stand by the opinion that we as humans do not deserve dogs, because of how pure they are.
