I am not a dog person, so I find it difficult to relate to the story. I do appreciate how the author decided to divide her life up into phases, with a dog to be the mascot of each phase of life. I've never bonded with a dog, so I'm not really drawn to the book. And after the terrifying dog attack that Jennifer experienced in her youth, I am surprised that she is a dog person at all.
