I love my dogs like they are my children (and I really do, because I have no human children) and I always say that God has sent dogs as angels to show us how to live and to see which people are truly good based on how they are treated. While I normally stay away from books about dogs (and some movies) because inevitably it involves their death at some point, I think this sounds inspiring enough that I can get past that.
