The most intriguing part of the excerpt is the fact the author is transgender and now openly lives life as a woman. Right there that is something I don't often get the chance to read about in fiction or nonfiction books and therefore that would be the reason I would want to keep reading. The dog aspect of the excerpt doesn't hold my interest as much.
