When Hudson, charming, but somewhat clueless, decides to do his senior year online so he can devote more time to writing a graphic novel and maintaining his two businesses -- a dog walking service and Distress Dial, a service for seniors who live alone, -- he finds himself entangled not only with leashes but also with two girls and one client who is suffering from increasingly disorienting episodes of Sundown syndrome. Alana, for whom he longs, Fritzy, from whom he learns, Mr. Pirkle, about whom he cares, are all engaging identifiable characters who, through complicated and believable relationships, help him to figure out who he really is and what he wants. Readers will root for Hudson throughout this thoughtful, often humorous but always touching, coming of age novel as he develops depth and empathy, sets new goals, and finds authentic direction for his graphic novel. A warm and satisfying read about identity and commitment with a wonderful protagonist.
