In this book, Andra wakes up from a cryonic sleep she was put into because she, her family, and other colonists were leaving Earth to settle a new planet. But when Andra awakens on the new planet, she learns that it is a thousand years after she was supposed to be woken up and her family is now dead. The residents of this planet, whom Andra believes to be the descendants of the colonists, regard her as a goddess. Andra knows that she is no deity, and she must team up with Zhade, the monarch's exiled brother, in order to find out what is going on in this world where technology is viewed as magic.
I thought that Goddess in the Machine was a great book. It is worth noting that the Eerensedians speak a variation of English known as "High Goddess," but is not difficult to understand. It is pretty much English now, but, for example, the word "actually" has become "actualish" and "eventually" has become "eventualish." There are a few other differences too, but I would say that the most noticeable one is the fact that "-ly" has become "-ish."
I definitely did not expect both twists in the book (there is one in the middle and one in the end). Suffice it to say that I am eagerly anticipating the sequel.
