I really like Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles and generally her fairy tale retellings. She does a fantastic job of incorporating the key elements of a fairy tale while still making the story new and fun. Gilded is no exception. One thing I did notice is that in comparison to her other works, this book follows the original story more closely. Whether or not that's a good or bad thing, I guess that'll be up to you to decide.

I don't read a lot of young adult anymore, but I really enjoyed Gilded. That being said, the time spent between when the king demands Serilda to spin gold felt a bit drawn out and repetitive. I don't want to say too much because I don't want to spoil anything, but I felt like the story could've been a tad bit shorter or at least paced better. 500 pages is kind of a lot for what this story is, but regardless it was still super engaging and fun to read.

If you like Marissa Meyer's other fantasy books, you'll definitely like Gilded!
