I read this book back in November of 2021 and it honestly was such a fun ride. The author voice is actual perfection, and I loved how the story twined around in a fairy tale-esque fashion. Serilda was fun, sassy, and likeable, and Gild was a sweet cinnamon roll of a character. You should know going in that this is a Rumpelstiltskin retelling, and as such it does not have a typical happily ever after. It is fairly dark, atmospheric read, and twines around to show time passing. There are also some (as I have said) darker story elements, and any reader would be well-served to read the trigger warnings before going in. (Namely, death, kidnapping, mutilation/ torture, murder, animal death...) I would also caution that this is an incredibly long book and doesn't actually need that. It could easily be shaved down to 350 pages rather than the 500+.
