Meyer combines the tale of Rumpelstiltskin with that of the mythical Hunt to bring Serilda's tale to life. I was so excited to read this novel as I loved Heartless by Meyer. She has a special way of retelling stories that everyone already knowns well. I love the idea of The Hunt and the Alder King as hunters of the night who ride alongside hellhounds seeking souls for the God of Death. That combined with Rumpelstiltskin elements made for an intriguing ride (pun intended).
Meyer has a beautiful way of setting up scenes and using detail to set the reader perfectly before adding dialogue and action. It was almost too much detail if I'm being honest. The beginning of the novel had so much promise and it was intriguing. The middle is where it lost its charm. I had to put it down for awhile. Regardless, Serilda is a loveable character and I enjoyed spending time with her.
