Marissa Meyer is the author of the Lunar chronicles which is a series I absolutely loved! In Gilded she continues to prove why she's a go to author of mine with what felt like a loose interpretation and retelling of Rumpelstiltskin to me. Serilda is the main character and even though she comes from a less than fortunate background as a poor miller's daughter she is fierce and can hold her own against some of the more powerful characters in this book. The villain was also really well written and felt like a menacing presence in the story. The one thing I felt was a bit lacking was the romance angle. I couldn't really bring myself to care abuot Serilda's relationship with Gild, in fact it probably would have been more interesting if the villain became a love interest later on in the story (similar to Feyre and Rhys from A Court of Thornes and Roses).
