Quite honestly, I don't know where this story is going, based on the foreign "strip tease" the reader is exposed to in the first few pages. I would never have chosen to read this book based on the picture (nor does the picture convey historical fiction). While the writing is good, and I think the 2 child protagonists show promise in their friendship, the first few chapters leave the reader wondering what will happen...will the girl with the almond eyes continue to play a role in the story, does this taste of nudity reappear throughout the story (and if so, that isn't for me)...
Nevertheless, I have no problem skimming inappropriate passages, as I am interested to see where the story goes. This book takes the reader to a whole other world, in a whole other time period, so this piques my interest.
