I really love books by Wilbur Smith. I just enjoy novels with so much detail of people and places. I really felt like I was in India under the hot sun then napping with the other house servants in the middle of the day.

The book is about the lives of Constance and Theo, two kids orphaned during a war in the 1700's between India. the English in Indian and France. Theo's journey I thought was more interesting in overcoming so much while holding on to huge feelings of guilt over what happened in the past. I can relate to him so much. Constance or Connie as she is known throughout the book is a good example of how women were treated back then, as objects. I do have to say that there are vivid sexual scenes in this book and a lot of dark gruesome detail so if you are squeamish then you may want to skip this book. If you love in depth detailed war stories with love, family, hardship, and reckoning then you will enjoy this book as I have. One of these days I am going to pick up the entire series and read them in order so I can get more of a family history and connection with all of these books. I highly recommend this book. Also, the cover is amazing.
