I have to agree with the other reviewers that this book started out strong but fell off through the middle. The opening airport scene really grabbed my attention. As I waded through the middle of this book, however, I struggled to stay interested. The author uses 3 different metaphors in this book: Freddy's boxing past, his ex-wife, and his mother. They're all compelling, and they all serve to explain the character's behavior and demeanor. But they really drained me as a reader. When the book jumped back into the present, I was exhausted. I found myself not really caring how the mystery unfolded. Really, any of these three metaphorical plots could have been severed and made into independent books.
