There's a lot going on in this book without rehashing the plot so I'll just stick to the writing and character development. The first 3/4s of the book is a dual timeline character development of Freddy Ferguson, the damaged protagonist cum boxing private eye extraordinaire with a past so tragic it's a wonder he gets out of bed in the morning. He can spot distressed femme a mile away and that's exactly what lands him in the middle of a multi-state drug/murder/terrorist/trafficking (seriously there's a lot going on here) dirty cop/FBI agent criminal enterprise that he pieces together from just looking at a woman at an airport. If you can suspend your disbelief long enough to sink into the plot there's some good story telling here, but there's also some WTF going on too. A bit of dialogue midway through the book and some interaction between Freddy and the woman he's attempting to save leaves you scratching your head and asking who exactly the bad guy is, as it just doesn't fit the character mold that's been built around the PI for like, the whole book. Besides that weirdness Freddy is a pretty likeable character, the plot flows pretty well and the book is a pretty good PI save the lady type story. Worth a read. Thanks to Bookishfirst for the opportunity to review!
