What a whirlwind of everything I love. I can honestly say that most of the hype surrounding this book is real. Furyborn is fast, interesting, engrossing and even romantic with a cast of complex characters, adventure and political intrigue.

Furyborn is told in third person and revolves around two girls, Rielle and Eliana. They’re lives span through years apart, but they’re both connected in more ways than one. One is prophesized to be the sun queen, who will guide the kingdom and one will be the blood queen, who will be the downfall of them all. For Rielle, she is put in a trial to find out which queen she will be. For Eliana a thousand years later, she struggles to find her missing mother an identity.

So like I mentioned, Furyborn revolves around two girls, and although they’re both struggling with who they are, I found myself leaning more towards one storyline best rather than the other. I liked Rielle’s storyline best. She was not your typical character. It was everything that a main character was, stubborn, taking risk, etc, but she was also selfish and a liar and a bit conceded, but I found that I liked that about her. It was refreshing seeing a character not struggling with who they were. She did doubt herself and we do see her vulnerable at times, but in the end, she becomes who she knew she was meant to be all along, and we know who she was, which brings me to my next point.

From the very beginning we learn how things end. We learn who the blood queen is and I think that’s the best part because when we begin our story, we end up fascinated as to how they go from point A to point B. I really liked knowing how things end because as the story progress, we don’t see subtle points that hint at the ending or obvious references, but a gradual growing confidence in both characters. I also found one of the villains, Corien, very interesting. He gave of Darkling vibes and as we all know, he’s one of my favorite villains.

Overall, Furyborn was fast paced and adventurous. Its characters were complex and really entertaining. Definitely recommend it, especially for fans of Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone, and Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas.
