I love the concept of this book, told from two different perspectives told 1000 years apart. By the end of this book, you will find out why.

This book deals with two young women, who have magic, and do both great and terrible things. They make these decisions because they want to save the people they love the most in the world, they want to save their own lives, and sometimes just because they can.

I find it great that the angels in this story are the bad guys, because they never are.

You learn the end of Rielle's story in the prologue, then throughout the story you learn about the trials that she must go through to prove that she is the long awaited "Sun Queen" and not the "Blood Queen". While, I know that she is the "Blood Queen" I still couldn't help but fall in love with her character. I wanted her and forbidden romance with Audric to work out. I wanted to see more of her interactions with Corien, which will obviously happen in the later books. While I knew she was going to be bad, I still hoped that she wouldn't.

Her daughter Eliana, who is also know as "The Dread of Orline", is an assassin for the Empire. She eventually finds herself at work with the very people that she has been killing. Her mother {whom she later finds out isn't her birth mother} was kidnapped and she wants to find her, while also protecting her brother. I found myself extremely frustrated with her sometimes, but that was because there were things that she did that I knew wouldn't in the end help her.
