Furyborn centers around two human girls of about the same age, but their timelines are 1000 years apart. Rielle Dardenne can control all seven elements and must prove to the Royals and Church that she is the Sun Queen they've been waiting for. Eliana Ferracora knows that the Empire is all there is after the Blood Queen's deception. As a bounty hunter for the Empire, Eliana has no sympathy for the rebels until she is forced to work with a rebel captain to find her mother.

I loved the way these two storylines manage to parallel each other so well even though Rielle's story is over and done with before Eliana's even begins. It's such a fascinating and mind boggling premise and I absolutely adore it! I was still instantly drawn to Rielle's story, her tale captivated me right off the bat in a way that Eliana's didn't. Maybe it was the blatant magic or Rielle's personality. Rielle at the beginning of Furyborn is definitely not evil. She is fiercely protective of the ones she loves and will do anything for them, but she's also just a girl trying to live her life.

Eliana, on the other hand, was a bit irritating at the beginning. Maybe it's because I'm hardcore cheering for the rebels that I hate her instinct to run to the Empire for help. Whatever it is, it makes for quite the conflicting feelings as the story unwinds. After Eliana got a wake up call about the state of the Empire and world around it, I liked her much better. I get why she did the things she did, but it doesn't mean I had to like it. Basically, I was on her brother's side the whole time. I am super excited to see what she'll do in Kingsbane since I'm pretty sure she's going to pull some badass shit.

I loved the world building of Furyborn, all of the elemental powers were so well thought out. It was amazing to see that each one had a proper name, saint and other defining characteristics. The magic was truly brought to life through LeGrand's writing. The fantasy world doesn't stop at elemental powers though, there is also huge Angelic lore woven into this tale. And they aren't the good guys they're made out to be. The whole Angels vs. humans brought intrigue and danger into an already explosive story.
