Furyborn is a fantasy novel told in two points of view; alternating between Rielle and Eliana, whose story takes place 1000+ years after. At first I wasn't sure how they would be connected, but as the story progressed, the parallels between them grew more clear and it was fun to see how they connected. For me, Rielle and Eliana were definitely some of the highlights. They were both independent, badass women who fell solidly in the morally gray area. Rielle, who accidentally exposes her ability to perform all kinds of magic (a power prophesied to be held by only 2 people, one who will save the world and the other who will destroy it) while saving her friend, must face 7 trials to prove she is the good queen. Eliana is an assassin who does what she must to provide for her mom and little brother Remy (who is so sweet and precious and must be protected at all costs), however that doesn't stop her from feeling guilty about it. She also has some special abilities and faces some trials of her own in a way.
As well as the main characters, I loved several of the side characters, like Rielle's friend Ludivine, and I found the plot quite engaging. I didn't have any issues with the pacing. I also found the history and magic system complex but not too confusing. While the book is a little on the long side and some of the plot twists were a little too predictable, it was still an epic read and I highly recommend that you get a copy of Furyborn! I will be eagerly anticipating the next one.
