When I heard the premise of Furyborn by Claire Legrand, I immediately thought, "Yes! This is the kind of fantasy I'm looking for!" Two badass sounding main characters, a fascinating world, and a complex plot that manifests well through the two timelines. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with this book.

I didn't particularly care about any of the characters- I would have liked Eliana more if she wasn't so darn annoying and stupid. I actually really liked Simon for most of this book but towards the end, he became super worship-y to Eliana and really- I don't know- devoted creepo. I liked Rielle more in the beginning but I honestly just lost interest in her by the end. Audric was bland and basically had no personality. Ludivine was alright but she wasn't the main focus so she doesn't really count? From that timeline, I feel like Corien was the most interesting character even though he was in it less than Audric or Ludivine. The characters were overall very meh.

The two individual plots were again, meh. Eliana's plot was boring for the first two-thirds, but the last few chapters were pretty good. Rielle's chapters grew in blandness as the book went on. The plots just weren't that interesting to me and I didn't care about what was going on.

The writing was decent I guess but I was to un-invested to make note of it. Overall, it wasn't a "bad" book by any means, I just didn't care so I didn't enjoy it. If the premise sounds interesting to you than I would recommend it. It will give you the fast-paced simple fantasy story that you're craving, as for magnificence? Eh.
