Furyborn is a difficult one to describe. Basically, it’s about two girls, a millennium apart, that are both part of a prophecy. And it’s told by both of their perspectives as we learn about the upcoming war against the angels and how the kingdoms got to be in their predicament.

In the beginning, it’s kind of confusing. There’s a lot of talk about elementals, a long list of characters/saints, and two POVs spanning a millennium. But after the first 100 or so pages, it gets easier to understand.

The characters were all done really well, and written with such casual diversity, which I really enjoyed for such a high fantasy novel. There was a bit of LGBT+ but it was written so off-handedly that you might have missed it. But, I liked it? Because it was nice to include even if it wasn’t the sole focus. The women in the book were strong characters, also.

One thing I didn’t like, was even though the two POVs were a millennium apart, there wasn’t a whole lot of differences in the time period. I sometimes even forgot that it was a millennium and not a century since the differences were so few and unmentioned. I mean the difference between 1918 and 2018 are vast. But honestly, there wasn’t a lot of mention of the setting, or culture (besides the bit of changes in religion).

Overall, I would recommend to those interested in fantasy. But you have to go in knowing that this is a long book.
