Within the first 10 pages, a series of events including murder and suicide leave a "gifted" 8-year old entrusted with protecting a newborn queen from a horrible evil. Normally, I would say that this is too far-fetched, but the chapters I read were so well-written and engrossing that I didn't want to stop!
